Free Government Phone Program 
Created by the federal government in 1985, the Lifeline Assistance program helps qualifying low-income households by providing them with FREE wireless service, all so they can stay connected to what matters most—healthcare, loved ones, government services and more. If you are enrolled in Medicaid, a State-Funded Healthcare Program, or SNAP, you likely qualify for Assurance Wireless FREE wireless service.

SafeLink Wireless is a participating LifeLine Service Provider.
Lifeline is a federally-sponsored program that provides a discount on communication services to eligible individuals and families. Eligibility is determined by income and/or participation in state or Federal support programs. Through Lifeline, SafeLink subscribers are eligible to receive a mobile phone and a monthly discount on their service. SafeLink benefits are limited to one line per household. SafeLink Wireless is a service of TracFone Wireless, Inc., a Verizon company.

Luke’s Closet allows guardians to focus on helping kiddos heal from trauma, not the stress of providing for them. Foster and kinship (e.g., Grandma) families are an often-forgotten population frequently operating on the financial margins while caring for children who may have arrived at their new home with just the clothes on their backs after leaving a traumatic situation. We are Dane County's only clothing closet for foster, adoptive and kinship kiddos.

The East Madison Community Center is located in the Truax neighborhood two blocks from the main Madison Area Technical College campus.

At WayForward Resources, we acknowledge the ongoing structural disparities caused by racism in our country and community. These disparities cause harm to marginalized populations including Black and Brown people and Indigenous people. Structural racism creates barriers to well-being and progress, experiences of racial trauma, and decreased access to food and housing. This is intensified for people who are English language learners. We work to reduce harm and enact change by fulfilling an immediate need for food and housing, including voices of lived experience, and advocating for racial equity in these areas. We envision a strong community where race-based barriers to opportunity do not exist, and race no longer predicts someone’s stability. Everyone’s dignity is recognized and all have the necessary resources to reach their self-defined goals.

HOW TO Earn Your BIKE!!!

1. Perform 10 or more hours of volunteer community service to qualify as a bike earner. A bike earner can only receive one bike in any given 12 month period.

2. Fill out the Wheels for Winners Bicycle Application. Discuss yourself and your volunteer work in the community. Print your application and bring it to our Wheels for Winners’ shop. You can also fill out an application at the shop.

3. If you are new to volunteer community service, you can do any activities that you consider of value to family, friends and neighbors in your community. These may include traditional service such as working in food pantries and community gardens, doing mentoring or promoting social justice. Check out our partner organizations for volunteer opportunities.

4. Stop by the Wheels for Winners shop at 229 South Fair Oaks Avenue in Madison with your completed application and pick out a bike, helmet and lock. Turn into the alley behind Video Game X-Change and we are in the back of the building.

How do we provide mechanical instruction at little or no cost to our students? Easy: it’s through the generosity of members, volunteers, and donors like you. Friends of our community teach classes, help out around the shop, and provide us with the used bikes and parts that make our work possible. Your kindness keeps our doors open, and ensures our classes are available to everybody for the months and years to come.
